    Oaklawn's 20th Anniversary Spring Spectacular

For the past 20 years, your support of Oaklawn’s Spring Spectacular has shone a light on mental illness and addiction, breaking down stigma and empowering others to seek help and tell their stories.

We have listened to astronauts, movie stars, authors, athletes and musicians share their experiences, and in turn, we have learned to better understand ourselves and those around us.

With your support, Oaklawn has been able to expand services, offer new preventative programs, strengthen partnerships and chip away at the stigma that mental illness and addiction often carry.

Thank you for your continued support.

This year, we decided to break with tradition and offer the pure enjoyment that theatre can bring into our lives while also highlighting the local talent of Premier Arts with their production of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

We hope to see you there!

What makes a monster and what makes a man? This is the central theme of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a sweeping, grand-scale musical from Disney Theatrical. Based on the 1996 Disney film and Victor Hugo’s 1831 novel, The Hunchback of Notre Dame tells the story of Quasimodo, the hunchbacked bell-ringer of Notre Dame, and his desire to one day be a part of the outside world.

When Quasimodo summons the courage to attend the Feast of Fools, he meets Esmeralda, a compassionate gypsy who protects him from an angry mob. At the same time, Quasimodo’s master, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, and the new captain of the guard, Phoebus de Martin, fall in love with the beautiful girl. Adding to Quasimodo’s struggle is his punishment and derision from Frollo, following years of psychological abuse, and the danger posed by the gypsies, who are willing to kill any outsiders who venture into their secret hideout. But before Paris is burned to the ground, will Quasimodo be able to save Esmeralda from Frollo’s lust and anger? Will she return Quasimodo’s affection? Who is the true monster of Notre Dame?

Kimball Organ Series: Laurel & Hardy

Laurel and Hardy were a comedy double act during the early Classical Hollywood era of American cinema. The team was composed of English thin man Stan Laurel (1890–1965) and American fat man Oliver Hardy (1892–1957). They became well known during the late 1920s through the mid-1940s for their slapstick comedy, with Laurel playing the clumsy and childlike friend of the pompous bully Hardy. Roseanne: Alive and Kickin' Tour

Comedy superstar, award-winning actress, best-selling author, 2012 presidential candidate and the original domestic goddess, Roseanne Barr will perform her stand-up comedy in select US cities in 2019. With more than 30 years of making audiences laugh, it’s safe to say she has single-handedly re-landscaped the medium of comedy forever. The New York Times said that “her greatest asset is her gravitational pull, a force that enchants while holding things, and people, at a comfortable distance. It is the power of a whole planet, pulling everything around it inexorably into its orbit.”

She began her career as a stand-up comedian, turning her experiences as a wife and mother into a hilarious comedy act that audiences couldn't resist. She subsequently produced and starred on her own hit sitcom, "Roseanne," which ran for nine seasons and averaged a staggering 30 million viewers each week.

A titan in the world of stand-up comedy, Roseanne returned to her love for live performance, and last year toured select cities in Canada. The Toronto Star wrote, “Roseanne’s act was wide-ranging, exhilarating, occasionally exasperating, intermittently shocking (in both good and bad ways) and, most encouragingly for one of the greatest stand-up comics of all time, just preposterously funny.”

Fans can find Roseanne more information and frequently updated content on her website - roseanneworld.com, on Facebook – OfficialRoseanneBarr, onTwitter - @TheRealRoseanne, and Instagram - @OfficialRoseanneBarr

Dr Randal Pinkett: Continuing the Conversation

    Stryper

Established in southern California in 1983, multi-platinum crossover Christian metal band, Stryper, continues to share their positive message and energetic stage presence with a passionate following throughout the world. Since the band's inception over 30 years ago, the founding members have stayed true to their deepest convictions, turning from "the ways of the world" and following their hearts instead.

"In the past 34 years, we've evolved into what we are now," says vocalist and guitarist Michael Sweet. "This is what we always really wanted to be. I love the progression. The story of Stryper is that of an underdog. We seem to go against the grain with everything we do, and our fans tend to be the same – They're good hardworking people who believe in love, respect, and not conforming to the ways of the world." The members of Stryper have proven themselves as metal stalwarts, leaving an indelible mark on the genre with each new release. With such hits as "Calling On You," "Free," "Honestly," and "Always There For You," Stryper's album sales now exceed over 10 million worldwide. Add to that one of the most successful Christian rock albums ever, 1986's multi-platinum To Hell With The Devil, and the unique distinction of being the first band in history to notch two songs in MTV's Top 10 with "Free" and "Honestly." The band has managed to leave an enduring impression on pop culture, as well. Singer Michael Sweet spent months trending online when he was identified as the doppelganger of 2016 presidential candidate Ted Cruz, who went on to discuss the comparison on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Several movies have paid homage to Stryper's cultural significance, too, including Drew Barrymore's "Whip It" and "Pain & Gain," starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Since returning from a 12-year hiatus in 2003, Stryper has managed to release new music annually. Their most recent full-length album, Fallen [Frontiers Music SRL], reached #44 on the Billboard Top 200 and #2 on the Top Hard Music Albums chart. The group is now recording their next original album, which is due in April of 2018 and promises to be their most groundbreaking yet. This year will also bring Stryper back on the road, where they'll have a chance to connect with fans, new and old. The line-up still features three of the original members, including singer songwriter Michael Sweet, his brother and drummer Robert Sweet, and guitarist Oz Fox. Recently, the group welcomed iconic bassist Perry Richardson (formerly of Firehouse), who will be joining them on tour.

"We're excited about the next season of Stryper," says Sweet. " We have the best fans in the world and the band is at the top of its game musically and spiritually. We look forward to seeing everyone on the road."
