Willie Nelson Tickets Go on Sale at Lerner Theatre

February 24, 2012

People lined up right at 10 a.m. Friday to buy tickets for the April 13 Willie Nelson concert at the Lerner Theatre. It will be Nelsons first appearance in Elkhart.

Promoter Peter Kernan said he expected a 20:1 ratio between people buying tickets online and those lined up at ticket outlets. He said there were about 50 people lined up at 10 a.m., when they went on sale.

I dont know if it will sell out today, but I expect it to sell out, he said.

Tickets ranged from $49.85 to $69.85 with some VIP seats going for $102.85.

Goshen resident Bill Karn arrived shortly after 10 a.m. to pick tickets for his wife, himself and another couple. He said he had not seen Nelson in South Bend last March or at Covaleski Stadium with John Mellencamp and Bob Dylan in 2009. Nelson also appeared at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair and at Covaleski in 2004.

Weve heard lots of good things, Karn said about both Nelson and the Lerner Theatre.

General manager David Smith said ticket sales were high between 10 a.m. and noon and then steady into the afternoon. He said the VIP seats were some of the first to go, but that there are still a few left.

It says a lot about Willie Nelson, but it says a lot about our community that they appreciate the headliner, they appreciate the established talent coming to town and theyre not afraid to step up and buy that ticket, Smith said.

Even though Nelson has performed in the Michiana area before, Smith said it was exciting that he had chosen as the Lerner to be his next performance in the area.

Sometimes these performers that are used to playing for 7,000, 10,000 or 20,000 people, they like to play in more intimate settings from time to time, he said. Its nice that the Lerner can provide that here in northern Indiana.
