Three Dog Night playing Lerner show Jan. 23 in Elkhart despite death of band member

October 29, 2015

Joy to the world, Three Dog Night is returning to Elkhart.

Three Dog Night will play its Jan. 23 show at The Lerner Theatre as scheduled. It was unclear if the band would still play the show after the band’s singer Cory Wells passed away earlier this month.

The band was originally scheduled to play at the Lerner Oct. 25, but that show was postponed in early October while Wells was treated for a nerve problem in his back. Wells sang lead on several of the band’s hits, including "Never Been to Spain" and "Mama Told Me (Not to Come)."

Wells died Oct. 20 in Dunkirk, N.Y, at the age of 74.

The other band members have said Wells told them he didn’t want to disappoint longtime fans who were looking forward to the show.

“Cory was an incredible singer — a great performer, he could sing anything,” bandmate Danny Hutton said in a press release.

The band last performed in Elkhart County at the Elkhart County 4-H Fair in 2009.

Doors open at the Lerner at 6 p.m. Jan. 23, and the show starts at 7 p.m. Ticket prices range from $38 to $65, and tickets purchased for the October show will be honored at the January show.
