Lerner Brings Roomful of Blues, Varied Acts to Elkhart

November 04, 2011

Thursday nights Roomful of Blues show was one of many varied performances the Lerner Theatre has hosted this season.

General manager David Smith said he wasnt sure of the exact numbers, but ticket sales had gone well. Smith said his focus is on bringing good talent to the venue.

Its not about selling out every show, he said.

Recent shows at the Lerner have been varied and include country legend George Jones, British jazz group the Paul Dunton Quintet and Saturdays performance of the Elkhart County Symphony.

Smith said its that variety and quality that he wants to see at the Lerner.

Whats important for us is that the Lerner is a venue that puts on good talent, Smith said.

Last Fridays George Jones concert sold about 80 percent of its tickets, which means 1,200 people attended the show.

That concert was one of the highest-attending shows this season and eclipsed the numbers for groups Kansas (800 people) and War (1,100 people), who came to Elkhart in September and August, respectively.

Because the Jones show sold so well, acts of a similar level might be coming to town next year.

Were working on a few other things right now, Smith said. Weve got some stuff exciting for the new year, but were just not in the position to make those announcements yet.
