November 01, 2012

The Elkhart County Symphony will hold a fundraiser concert on Nov. 16 to help raise money for its season.

The event, A Wreath for All Seasons, will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Lerner Theatre’s Crystal Ballroom. There will be a live and silent auction, music from The Jim Pickley Trio. and dinner. Tickets are $50, and reservations should be made by Nov. 9.

Vice president of Development and violinist Susan Ellington said they are hoping to raise between $9,000 and $11,000 this year. It is the symphony’s 65th season his year.

It has been seven years since the symphony was nearly disbanded before being saved by its musicians. Their first concert of the season was on Sept. 22 and featured the music of Cole Porter. About 1,000 people attended that show.

“It’s a huge difference from what audience attendance was seven years ago,” she said.

Bidding, cocktails and appetizers will begin at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7:30 p.m. Items up for auction include exotic trips, sports paraphernalia, golf outings and art prints.

“It costs about $12,000 per concert,” she said. “We’re working to meet the expenses of the symphony.”

Their next shows are:

• Dec. 22, Holiday Choral Celebration with the Goshen Community Chorale.

• March 3, 2013, Taste of the Tropics.

• May, 2013, French Impression: Debussy and Beyond.
